Chaperone Training

Course Aim: The aim of the session is to ensure all health care staff are aware of their responsibilities with regards to the chaperoning of patients.

Course outcomes:

At the end of the training delegates will be able to:

  • Identify in which situations a chaperone may be required
  • Discuss the role of the chaperone with regard to their duty of care, consent and confidentiality during examinations or consultations
  • Discuss the need to provide a suitable environment for the patients during examination/consultations
  • Discuss the law relating to chaperoning
  • Discuss the procedures for raising concerns about professional performance (whistle blowing)

This training will use scenarios to aid discussions relating to specific situations in practice.
