Flu vaccination training for Practice Nurses & Health Care Assistants. One day core training

This one day training wil provide the appropriate, up to date information required by Health Care Assistants in order for them to administer flu and pneumonia vaccines safely.

Course Curriculum

At the end of the training delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of how vaccinations work
• Have an understanding of vaccine preventable diseases
• Have an understanding of the 3 C’s: communication, consent and capacity
• Demonstrate an understanding of delegation, accountability and the legal aspects of immunisation
• Discuss their understanding of Patient Group Directions and Patient Specific directions and who works under both
• Discuss the documentation and record keeping required following immunisation
• Demonstrate their knowledge around vaccine storage and the cold chain
• Explain the aims of flu immunisation and have an understanding of national policy
• Recognise the target groups for flu immunisation
• Explain the aims of the pneumonia immunisation and have an understanding of national policy
• Recognise the target audience for pneumonia immunisation
• Demonstrate their awareness of the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
• Administer intramuscular injections in a classroom setting (Practical Session)
